Mohamed Cheikh
Mohamed Cheikh (Arabic: محمد شيخ) is a French-Algerian chef, born in 1981 in Montreuil, near Paris. He grew up in a modest family where cooking played a significant role, steeped in Algerian culinary traditions. Drawn to this world from a young age, he pursued a career in the restaurant industry and built his path with determination, learning on the job rather than through traditional academic training. After gaining experience in various establishments, he refined his technique and developed a personal culinary identity, marked by the fusion of French gastronomy and Mediterranean influences. His career took a decisive turn when he joined the teams of renowned chefs, notably Alain Ducasse, where he honed his exacting standards and precision. He rose to prominence in 2021 by winning season 12 of the television show Top Chef, becoming the first contestant of North African descent to win the title. This victory marks a significant moment, both for his career and for the representation of French gastronomy in the world. His style captivates with its balance between modernity and respect for ingredients, as well as its connection to the flavors of his childhood. Following his television success, Mohamed Cheikh has pursued numerous projects. He has opened several restaurants, including Manzili, which offers cuisine inspired by his roots, and is committed to sharing and promoting culinary diversity. He also publishes books and participates in various gastronomic events. Beyond cooking, he embodies a new generation of committed chefs, dedicated to the values of authenticity, sharing, and cultural openness. His career, built with perseverance, reflects a desire to foster dialogue between cultures through gastronomy and to make haute cuisine more accessible, while maintaining high standards.
